20 Ugandan LGBT Youths Sue Town Council Official and Prisons Officer for Human Rights Violations

Today Human Rights Awareness and Promotion Forum (HRAPF), in conjunction with the 20 members of Children of the Sun Foundation (COSF) filed a suit against Hajji Abdul Kiyimba, the LC III chairperson of Kyengera Town Council, as well as Philimon Woniala, the Deputy Officer in Charge of Kitalya Mini-Maxi Prison. The applicants in the suit seek damages for the human rights violations perpetrated against the 20 youths, during their arrest and detention at Kitalya Mini-Maxi Prison. During the press conference that was subsequently held, HRAPF issued an official statement, in which they decried the acts of torture, cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment that the youths were subjected to, and reiterated the inalienability of the right to freedom from torture inhuman and degrading treatment.
