CSOs call for further decongestion of prisons as part of the COVID-19 response

The decongestion of Uganda's prisons has never been so important, as it is in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. While the presidential pardon of 833 prisoners does offer some relief, there is still a lot to be done. The Coalition to Decriminalise and Declassify Petty Offences in Uganda has thus petitioned the Attorney General to take further steps towards decongesting prisons, as well as other detention facilities, with a view to enforcing social distancing measures aimed at curbing the spread of the corona virus.
