HRAPF’s Legal aid project for HIV/AIDS infected and affected women and girls in the four districts of Mityana, Mpigi, Luwero and Kiboga continues to deliver justice to our clients. On 17th April 2013 one of our clients was full of praise and jubilation after the Magistrate Grade One of Mityana His Worship Daniel Lubowa convicted and sentenced her tormentor to a year in jail.

On 25th March 2013 we received a complaint from a widow in Mityana reporting constant assault by her lover. The matter was reported to Mityana Police Station where he was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm contrary to section 236 of the Penal Code but he was released after caution.

The caution did not deter the suspect from further assaulting and threatening our client including issuing threats to kill her. The matter was reported to Police again and our client finally got her day in court on 17th April 2013 when the accused was convicted on his own plea of guilty and upon the State Attorney and HRAPF’s Lawyer in the matter praying for a deterrence sentence, he was sentenced to one year imprisonment.

Client left court room happy and with great thanks to HRAPF lawyers for the work done and said that she is now returning to her home and will be able to have a livelihood.
